Recommended Tasks and Hints for May 2022

  • Support your plants i.e. single canes for tall plants such as delphiniums, twiggy pea sticks for lower plants and circular wire mesh for things like peonies.

  • Now is the time to feed your lawn. Mow once a week to encourage a thicker and denser growth.

  • Deal with slugs and snails.....avoid chemicals where you can.

  • Choose a nice, warm showery day to plant out your Summer bedding plants.

  • Make this the year you grow something to eat! radishes, spring onions, French beans, lettuces.

  • Earth up potatoes.

  • Plant out courgettes, squash and other tender veg. such as runner beans. BUT - Plant by the weather and conditions, not by the book ....as my father always said!
